How to learn the forehand?
Establish eye contact with the ball
In order to complete the forehand shot, it is crucial you first maintain a fixed eye contact on the ball even when it is not pointed towards you. When maintaining such target remember minute tips such as if you are right handed to establish contact a bit off towards your right side. And set up the shot when the ball is right in front of you.
When practicing the forehand shot, it is imperative you establish prior and precise racquet-face control. Holding the correct direction of the racquet face will determine where the ball is reflected upon contact with it. When starting out, slowly get the feel of the bat and progressively strike the ball towards the intended direction by gaining accurate control of the racquet face.
Many players are known to hold their racquets with various grips. It really doesn’t matter how you hold the racquet as long as you gain total control of the racquet face and can effectively make shots towards predetermined directions. Another vital aspect when gripping the racquet is to hold the bat with not too much pressure and not too lightly as it can slip away from your hand. It is essential to start your workout with a proper warm up, building your way up. Integrate more dynamic exercises instead of static ones. Ensuring you are warmed up properly is critical to prevent any risk of injury. Since explosive running in pursuing the ball will involve significant muscle contractions, it is imperative you cool down after such contractions as or else it could lead to accumulation of waste by-products, lactic acid and affect muscle performance. Cool down should involve gradual low-intensity exercises, ending with typical muscle stretching.
Never train in straight lines
Tennis barely requires its players to run in straight lines as no ball served from the opponent will be straight. Tennis will need you to move in multiple directions with rapid speed and making shots. Training in straight lines is not practical for the game.
Train over short distances
Typically speed training involves sprinting minimum distances of 100m. But this is not the case in the game of tennis; as it requires you to run short distances, say about 5-10 m with explosive energy and speed. So, it is better to train your body and build up momentum in short distance practice.
Train your footwork
It is mandatory you train for foot speed as it is worthless if you are not able to reach your shots in time. In order for you to deliver shots, it is crucial you build up your foot speed. Many of the best players in the game possess remarkable foot speed. You can train for such rapid and explosive foot speed by integrating agility exercises such as ladder and cone drills.
Rest periods are important
Since enhancing foot speed will involve running rapidly and intensely, you are bound to get tired. You need adequate rest of minimum 1 minute between each exercise to rest your muscles. Failing to rest adequately and training with zero to little rest will take a toll on your muscles, disabling you from performing with maximum output and efficiency. The Tennis rackets used to be framed out of the woods till the late 1960s. The metal frames came into fashion when the famous player of USA Jimmy Connor played with the metallic racket. The last player to play with the wooden racket was blue-ribbon player Miloslav Mecir played during 1988 Olympics. Until 1972, when it was discovered that yellow is the brightest color and is prominently visible to the audience watching matches on TV, the ball used to be either black or white, depending on the background color.
The Tennis court is a rectangular field, which has 23,77 meters length and 8,23 meters width specifically for singles while 10,97 width for doubles. The two courts are divided by the net which is 1,07 meters from an end to another while 6,4 meters in the center. There is also a standard format for a racket, and the strings must be uniform and flat crossing each other forming the checks. It must not be more than 73,7 inches length and 31,7 inches in width. The weight of the racket also must be taken care of, as it might affect the player’s performance.
The match is taken care by 12 judges, judging for different categorical areas, the judges are; chair, network, serving, service, line, central line, court, and ball judges. Each taking care of their own set of rules and maintaining the dignity of those rules.
Guiding a person or train one into a player is the most challenging task a person might encounter. It is not always a piece of cake, teaching a technique as every person has a different personality and an instinct of performing a task of his own. It gets even more difficult when the one whom you are teaching has adopted specific techniques already, and you might want him to learn everything from scratch. Training a person into a tennis player, its an amalgamation of art and science with all the tactics you play to make your game stronger. As modern tennis is played in millions of clubs and countries, you will get as many coaches all over the world with hundreds of different techniques varying from another.
Tennis is a perfect test of the skills as well as stamina of a player. When it comes to a match, tennis doesn’t remain just a game, but competition is testing each player’s patience and impromptu instincts. With various strategies and styles, each player plays in a particular domain with varied strengths and weaknesses. The best coaches keep the scientific approaches in mind as they know, no matter how and what you pay, you cannot defeat the physics behind. They would instead make the mechanics their stroke point by studying the matches and videos with a logical point of view. Similar goes with the fashion of serving a forehand or backhand. Every coach forms a different opinion on it, while it is purely a pick of science. Biomechanics always hit the edge when it comes to professional level and therefore the excellent coaches take care of everything related.
Brushing up the skills is yet another form of talent for a coach. The coach has to study his student very keenly to know what are the skills he already possesses and what are the skills he can achieve over time. It becomes a concern for a coach to learn about the weakness and to find a way to overcome that. If the student is good with studying the directions of the ball and where do it direct when hits a specific part of the racket, he has professional skills of playing expertly, but it is the job of a coach to nourish the talent into possession by teaching him to hit the perfect edge for an extraordinary shot.
